MOUTHs

Seeking connections between the body and more-than-human worlds, I’m returning to the mouth in my work.

Viewing volcanos, geysers, caves and openings as intimate ‘mouths’ of the earth, as a potential bridge between overlapping ecologies. Desperate to understand, I want to climb inside and can't. Visiting Strokkur geyser in Iceland in 2019 meant being soaked in a sulphur-smelling eruption and it changed me, it felt like being close to the spouting of a great blue whale.

Current research considers mouths as an original site of knowing, mouths as portals, entrances, as centres of creation, sexuality, voicings, as openings in the earth, as tools, with buildings as mouths, objects as mouths, expanding to kissing, teeth, intimacies.
