the new somatic photographic
The New Somatic Photographic (NSP) is an evolving ecofeminist framework for thinking about photography through the body, relationship and exchange.
Rather than imagining the photographer as a solitary eye standing apart from the world, NSP asks what happens when image-making becomes a form of embodied listening and contact. Light-sensitive materials, bodies, plants, water, darkness and other agencies are approached as participants rather than passive subjects.
The research grows through making, writing, conversation and collaboration, and is particularly interested in photography’s colonial and patriarchal inheritances, somatic knowledge and more-than-human relations.
